Gold Coast Saints Honour Ros Bates MP

On Sunday 30th July 2017, members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on the Gold Coast gathered to recognise Ros Bates, MP for her contribution to the community.

President Daniel Shine, of the Gold Coast Stake (diocese) honoured Ms Bates with a Community Recognition Award on behalf of the Church.

During the evening, Ms Bates recalled overcoming domestic violence experiences that shaped her future life.

An advoctate for those who have suffered from domestic violence, Ms Bates encouraged the large crowd at the Stake Centre to "never give up and never give in". Her passion for people and her courage to help those who cannot help themselves enabled her to reach the goal to become a registered nurse.

Ms Bates was elected to Parliament in 2009. It has been her desire to improve the community through education and healthcare. Her support helps these groups continue to function.

Reflecting on the decision to recognise Ms Bates, President Shine stated, "Ros has made such a valuable contribution to our community in standing up for those who are victims of domestic violence and abuse. It is our pleasure to know her and to present this award to her. We look forward to partnering with her in community endeavours in the future."
