The story of Hazel and Richard Egan is told in this month's edition of the Ensign, a worldwide publication of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Hazel, a student of the scriptures, was searching for "the true church."
The article begins, "She wanted a church founded on faith in Jesus Christ, one that required sacrifice and daily commitment. So far, no church stood up to her scriptural tests."
She also had concluded that baptism, tithing, and fasting would be part of Christ's true church, and that it would be a way of life for its members.
According to the article, Hazel was not looking for just any church or one in which she felt comfortable. "I wanted to be baptized into the true church," she says. "'I didn't want just a Sunday church." But where could she find this religious organization?
The Ensign relates how Hazel wondered if it might be impossible to find the true church she sought. Then one day in 1992, missionaries from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints knocked on her door in Sydney, Australia.
Hazel came to the end of her search, and she and her husband set out on a new quest—to follow Heavenly Father's plan and prepare for life together with their family in the eternities.
