Will Hopoate's Formula for Happiness

Raised in large families themselves, footballer Will and his wife Jimicina Hopoate are thriving with the addition of another child to their growing family of three children in as many years.

They are members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and live in Sydney.

Upon leaving high school, Will entered into his professional football (rugby league) career. A year later, Will left to serve as a missionary in Brisbane.

“It was a tough decision, but I had the respect of my team behind me,” he says.

Resuming his career after two years volunteer service, Will played for Parramatta before being contracted to Canterbury who for a year granted Will his request to be with his family on Sundays.

It’s his conviction of faith that prompted the invitation to Will to speak at a meeting of the Macarthur Interfaith Network.

Football has also given Will the platform to share his journey with youth through his mentoring company “Succeed.”

“I talk about the principles, mindset and work ethic needed to set and reach goals and be inspired to chase their dreams,” Will explains.

“Prioritising my different responsibilities and putting Christ at the centre of my life blesses my marriage, my family and helps me fulfil my role as a professional athlete.

It’s a formula for happiness, and when we’re blessed we are happy!” Will says with a smile.
