Update on Brussels Attacks

Australian Church Member Has Near Miss

As reported earlier four missionaries of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints were injured in the bombing at the Brussels airport. Elder Richard Norby, 66, appears to be the most seriously injured. According to a report in the Salt Lake-based Deseret News, Belgian doctors have placed the senior LDS missionary in a medically-induced coma following lengthy surgery. Elder Norby served as an LDS mission president in the Ivory Coast from 2003 to 2005 and is a former teacher and administrator in the Church Educational System.  Go here for the full article.  See also here for a report on the Sister missionary injured in the airport attack.

The Advertiser (Adelaide) reports that Professor Neville Rochow, SC, an Australian serving with his wife as a Church Government Relations missionary in Brussels, said his wife Penny was leaving for the Maelbeek Metro station on that fateful day. She had heard a friend was seriously injured at Zaventem airport. The friend was Elder Norby. A phone call delayed her departure for the station. That delay may have saved her life, as the timing of her trip would otherwise have placed her at the Metro station when it was bombed. Go here for the full article.
