Support for Red Cross in Regional Queensland

Twenty cake bakers and 13 stall volunteers from the Sunshine Coast Stake (diocese) of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints joined forces with the Red Cross to raise funds to help drought stricken and hail affected farmers as well as the homeless in Bundaberg, Queensland.

Their efforts were part of a Pacific Area-wide Day of Service held on 27 Oct 2018.

Carol Delnevo, President of Red Cross Bundaberg was delighted when the volunteers rolled up with 30 donated and decorated cakes.

“I’ve not seen so many beautiful cakes. I’m so grateful for the support shown by members of your church,” exclaimed Carol.

Stephen Bennett MP, Member for Burnett, Keith Pitt MP Federal Member for Hinkler and David Batt, Member for Bundaberg supported the event by either baking or purchasing cakes.

Cakes not sold that day were donated to the organisation Angel, who cater to some of Bundaberg’s homeless and most vulnerable people.

In response to the service given, David Virdis of the Bundaberg Ward (congregation) said, “Because we’ve been given much, we too must give.”
