The Brisbane Australia Centenary Stake Centre of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints located in Augustine Heights has been taking shape for nearly a year now. More than 200 people attended the ground breaking last August.
A Latter-day Saint "Stake" is a group of congregations in a geographical location. The new facility will support residents in Springfield, Goodna, Redbank Plains, Forest Lake, Collingwood Park, Camira, Acacia Ridge and surrounds. There are 11 stakes in the Queensland area. Smaller groups under the direction of the stake are called wards.
The Centenary building will be approximately 2000 square meters in size and will include a chapel for worship services, classrooms, and a recreation hall for sporting and cultural events. It will be the largest Church building in the Ipswich area.
Cr Paul Tully, Deputy Mayor of the City of Ipswich recently commented to the Queensland Times newspaper that the Church was “a welcome addition to the community”.
“This will not only be a place of worship but also serve as the administrative hub for church operations across the local area,” Cr Tully said. Read the full article in The Queensland Times.
