In conjunction with National Family History Month, the Croydon Family History Library of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints opened its doors on Tuesday, 13th August to all interested in family history.
Peter Mudge is one of the many volunteer family history consultants at the library and has been doing family history for over 50 years.
“I started doing family history because I wanted to know about my mum and dad and aunties and uncles," said Peter. "I began with 2 exercise books of information that grew to using 3 different programs and now I have over 19,500 names on my family tree on FamilySearch."
"I love family history because it’s built into me a personal interest in my family from my love for them, and I want to connect them all together.”
For Susan and Peter Williams, it was their first time visiting the library and they were pleased they did. They met with family history consultants who introduced them to FamilySearch.org and helped them discover new connections in their families.
“I like to know where I come from and to pass on my history to my grandchildren,” said Susan.
The library was a hive of activity with both young and old seeking to find, preserve, and share their family history. With new technologies and apps, the younger generation are now getting on board. Bethany, 18 years, volunteers her time at the library to teach others how to navigate FamilySearch. She enjoys collecting family stories and photographs that she uploads to her family tree as memories for future generations.
