Melbourne Latter-day Saint Musician and Composer Realises Dream

Scott Hamilton, a musician and composer from Melbourne, has just completed the music and script for a new musical called “From the Dust.”

The play will premiere 19th of September at the Toorak College Drama Theatre in Mt. Eliza.

Mr. Hamilton, who is a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, said, “Fifteen years ago, after seeing a video about The Book of Mormon and then reading again Lehi's compelling story in the first few chapters, I was struck by how this would lend itself beautifully to the musical theatre stage.”

“After much prayer, study and hours at the piano, I set about writing. It has been a heart-felt and inspiring journey which has enabled me to express my faith and witness of the truthfulness of The Book of Mormon through music.”

Mr. Hamilton says he “really wants audiences to identify with the emotions, struggles and triumphs of this remarkable Jewish family who changed the course of history.”

“I am indebted to renowned LDS composers Daniel Carter (who wrote the hymn “As Now We Take the Sacrament”) and David Zabriskie (“Saviour of the World') for personally mentoring me through this process when I visited the United States.”

“I have been on my own creative and inspiring journey to bring this to the world.”

Bridgette Allen, who works as a theatrical director, described this musical as being “innovative, enlightening and entertaining.”

All proceeds will be given to the Helping Hands Nepal Foundation.
