Loving Thy Syrian Neighbours

Due to the ongoing conflict in Syria, many men, women and children have suffered much and been displaced. Children have lost their homes and security leaving them in urgent need of clean drinking water, food and medical supplies.

In response, young men from the Claremont Meadows Ward (congregation) in the Penrith Stake (diocese) of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints worked dutifully over two months to source donations of medical supplies to ease the suffering of their long distance Syrian neighbours.  Bandages, antiseptics and other medical equipment are due to be delivered to war torn Syria this month.

“One thing that I have learnt from the crisis in Syria is how privileged we are to live in this country and how we have such a great ability to help other people. We often take this for granted,” states Benjamin MacVean.

Referring to his favourite scripture, Benjamin says, “The Saviour taught that the greatest commandment is to love God and the second is to love our neighbour as ourselves.”

He continues, “The young men of Claremont Meadows Ward have been a wonderful example that through serving others we are showing love not only to our neighbour but to Heavenly Father as well.”
