Elder Carl R. Maurer was sustained as an Area Seventy of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on Saturday 31st March, 2018 during General Conference proceedings held in Salt Lake City, Utah. Elder Maurer will serve, teach and minister to members of the gospel of Jesus Christ in the Pacific Area.
Elder Maurer has served in the church as a bishop, high councillor, counsellor in a stake presidency and as a stake president. In 2007 he was called to oversee approximately 150 young missionaries at any given time during his 3 year tenure as mission president with his wife Karen in Perth; the same mission he laboured in as a young missionary in 1978. Most recently, Elder and Sister Maurer worked with young adults across Queensland as voluntary advisors.
Of his calling as an Area Seventy he said, "I am humbled by this call to serve the Lord in the Pacific Area. I feel a deep commitment to The Saviour and His gospel. I am ready to willingly do all I can to serve Him by ministering as He would do. As we follow living Prophets and Apostles, work together to love one another, strengthen testimony, increase spirituality and focus on making and keeping covenants, we will see profound blessings in our lives and lands."
In addition to his voluntary callings in the church, Elder Maurer is currently employed by the LDS Church as a Manager (QLD, SA, WA) for Self-Reliance Services/PEF. Prior to this, he worked as the National Business Development Manager and Business Trainer for a training organisation. In his early career, he owned and managed several successful businesses in the swimming pool and outdoor recreation industry. He holds a Bachelor of Business in Marketing and Human Resource Management from Griffith University.
Carl Ross Maurer was born in Brisbane, Australia on 11th April, 1959. He married Karen L. Jeffrey in September 1982 in the Temple View, New Zealand Temple. They are the parents of six children and nine grandchildren.
