Chinese New Year Celebration Brings Church Members Together

More than 300 members and their guests from the Waverley and Doncaster congregations and the Chinese Branch of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Victoria celebrated the arrival of the Lunar New Year with a party on 20th February.

The festivities began with a dinner featuring homemade foods from China, Korea, and Japan, as well as Mexico, Australia, and America.  Workshops on various aspects of Chinese art and culture followed, including the Chinese Zodiac, Chinese knots, Chinese dumpling workshop, Chinese calligraphy, and a traditional costume display.

A musical program featuring the flute, violin, piano, and Chinese harp delighted the audience.  The evening closed with the announcement of the winners of the food contest for best entrée, main dish and dessert.

In thanking the organizers, Bishop John Thatcher said, “It was a wonderful event—very well-attended, with so many great activities and performances and fantastic food!!  I know everyone really enjoyed themselves.”
