Australian Journalist Writes About Mormon Tabernacle Choir

Australian journalist, Jenny Tabakoff, writes this week for AAP and Yahoo News about her recent experiences in Utah, United States.

Excerpts from her article, titled, “Soaring Sound of a Great Choir,” follow:

“The egg-shaped building is simple but the far end of the interior is bathed in blue, featuring enormous gilded organ pipes and the biggest choir you have ever seen.”

“The choir, which on the day I am here numbers about 290 men and women, is accompanied by a full orchestra. They are singing Sunrise, Sunset, from the musical Fiddler on the Roof, and the sound is so achingly lovely that I initially think we must be late. But it turns out the Mormon Tabernacle Choir is doing a practice run, polishing perfection for today's Music And The Spoken Word performance, which will begin in about half an hour.”

“Even if you have come to Utah for the magnificent skiing, chances are you - or your aching muscles - will eventually crave something more cerebral or spiritual.”

“Luckily, only a short drive from resorts such as Park City, Deer Valley, Canyons, Alta, Snowbird and Sundance, is Utah's raison d'etre: Temple Square in Salt Lake City.

Utah is an amazing state - not just for its soaring, even biblical scenery but because it became the promised land for a new faith.”
