Will Hopoate and Sunday Games

NRL star Will Hopoate has announced that he has reluctantly agreed to change the decision he made in 2016 not to play on Sunday. Hopoate is a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He began his career with Manly and sat out the 2012 and 2013 seasons to serve a two-year Church mission.

'In a perfect world I wouldn't play,” he said on Monday. "Obviously I would love not to. But at the same time I have a duty to my employers and that's the Canterbury Bulldogs at the moment.”

Elder Robert Dudfield, Director of Public Affairs for the Church in Australia notes, "The position of the Church is that the decision to work or not work on Sunday is a personal matter. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints teaches its members to honour the Sabbath day. Each person determines how they will do that according to their faith and circumstances.”
