The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to Host Annual Reception for Leaders of their Community

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Sydney will be hosting its annual Community Leaders Reception at the Great Hall, University of Sydney, on 2nd December from 7:00 - 9:00 pm. The performance brings leaders of the community together and builds bonds of common goals and interests. Leaders from the religious, political and social areas have been invited to indulge in a heart-warming rendition of Handel’s Messiah performed by the Sydney LDS Chamber Choir and Orchestra as a way to welcome the Christmas season.

The LDS Chamber Choir and Orchestra has a wonderful tradition of using music to attract individuals who are not merely lovers of music, but lovers of the gospel of Jesus Christ. The reception provides an opportunity for the Church to display its talents and host reputable figures from the political, interfaith, charity and community service landscapes. The performance is the Church’s way of thanking its community neighbours for their incredible dedication and efforts to serve those around them.

Among the performers is tenor soloist, Phillip Denley, who began singing at nine years of age and has won multiple eisteddfods and competitions in Sydney and Canberra. He has performed with the Canberra City Opera and was invited to participate in ‘Music and the Spoken Word’ alongside the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. In relation to his involvement with Handel’s Messiah, Phillip commented, “It is a masterpiece that portrays the Saviour’s life and ministry, including His atonement and resurrection, in a profound and heart-warming way.  It is both a musically and emotionally rewarding experience for performers and audience.”

The Hon. David Clarke, Member of the Legislative Council (MLC) of NSW Parliament, whom recently chaired a discussion panel at the inaugural conference of the International Association of Parliamentarians for Peace (IAPP) - where many spoke about the need for strong family values and righteous, moral leadership in Australia – will be attending the reception as a special guest.  Mr. Clarke had attended previous receptions and described the rendition as “perfect.”  Mr. Clarke will also be moving a Motion in the NSW Parliament this week to congratulate the Church for recently staging a successful conference and luncheon at their Greenwich chapel.

The Hon. Paul Green MLC and his dear wife will also be presented with an award on the night to recognise their dedication to interfaith work.

Latter-day Saints and community leaders in Sydney are looking forward to celebrating their collaborative works throughout the year at the reception, while they also strengthen their friendships in the warmth of heavenly music.
