Senior Missionary Couple Support Armidale Eisteddfod

Missionaries for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Julina and Paul Hokanson, have made Armidale Eisteddfod part of their community service this year in a big way.

Elder and Sister Hokanson were involved in the Eisteddfod project for six months. Sister Hokanson took on the job of president when she found that a volunteer committee was in place but no one had volunteered to lead it.

The final event included 1,100 individual entries and 55 band and choir entries.

According to the Eisteddfod website, the project is “an important cultural event in the New England calendar that continues a wonderful cultural tradition established in Wales over 900 years ago”.

Sister Hokanson said of the experience: “The committee was an amazing group to work with and everyone had a vital part to play in this year’s success. Elder Hokanson and I are grateful for the opportunity to help with such an important event.”

The Church’s missionary program is one of its most recognized characteristics. Mormon missionaries can be seen on the streets of hundreds of major cities in the world as well as in thousands of smaller communities.

Missionaries can be single men between the ages of 18 and 25, single women over the age of 19 or retired couples.
