Saints Share Their Faith Through Song

On the evening of Saturday 4th November 2017, members of the Australia Ipswich West Stake (Diocese) of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints showcased their talents in a Book of Mormon Pageant. The event was held at the Clive Berghoffer Centre, located on the University of Southern Queensland Campus, Toowoomba.

During the event, 60 talented cast members sang, acted and shared stories from the Book of Mormon before a crowd of 350 enthralled audience members. Attendees were also given the opportunity to browse through a variety of displays about the Church, with willing hosts to answer questions.

Ipswich West Stake President Mark McNamee was thrilled to be a part of this event. He commented, “Pageants are a way to demonstrate our faith in song. They are a strong performance tradition in the Church. We love to tell our stories in song. It helps to draw the members together in a purposeful and fun filled way”.

Included in the attendance were several members of the Toowoomba Interfaith Working Group. This was an amazing opportunity for the members of The Church to share their beliefs with others. The interfaith group, is working towards interfaith peace and harmony, through shared knowledge and understanding.

Dr Arsalan Falati, of the Sufi faith enjoyed the friendliness of the members as well watching the children sing and perform., He commented that it was lovely to see the children running around, playing together. Local Catholic Pastoral Carer, Nicole Rangiira had ‘the loveliest time’ and noted “There is so much to learn about your faith. I'll be back next year to be part of the tradition”

The pageant is the second the talented Ipswich West Stake has carefully directed and performed. Last year, the theme focused on the Restoration of the Gospel. Creative minds are already hard at work in preparation for next year.

Attendees left with inspiration and courage of those in the stories shared during the afternoon. One visitor, Michael Flanderka, reflected “I was inspired to act with more conviction in my life”.

Participants and attendees look forward to continuing the tradition next year.
