Children from the Penang Sangam Primary School will once again be able to attend school and learn following a donation including desks and chairs from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints' humanitarian division "LDS Charities."
The Penang Sangam Primary School was nearly destroyed earlier this year when Tropical Cyclone Winston devastated parts of Fiji.
"Penang Sangam Primary School had lost 95 per cent of its belongings and this assistance will never be forgotten," said teacher Rajesh Kumar.
LDS Country Welfare Manager for Tuvalu and Fiji, Frank Stanford (pictured above), said, "I am glad we could help this school in such time of need."
LDS Charities is the humanitarian arm of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Its purpose is to relieve suffering, foster self-reliance and provide opportunities for service for people of all nationalities and religions.
The organisation sponsors relief and development projects in 179 countries and provides assistance without regard to race, religious affiliation, or nationality. More than one million workdays of labour are contributed each year by LDS Charities volunteers in support of welfare initiatives.
