Day 17 #LightTheWorld reminds that we should meet together oft.
Church leaders from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Sydney gathered together at a dinner with local prominent Chinese Leaders in the wider Chinese community recently.
Attendees from the Church included the leaders of the two local Chinese-speaking units (Ryde and Bankstown), Bishop Leo Kwok, and President Peter Fung, and Harbour Stake President Bardia Paki. Local leaders included Ms Shirley Chan, President, Australian Chinese Community Association NSW, Mr Damien and Mrs Diane Tudehope, MP Member for Epping, Mr Peter Lin Bishop of George River, Australian Anglican, and The Hon. Mr Ernest Wong, MLC Member of the NSW Legislative Council.
During the dinner, guests enjoyed a tour of the LDS Chapel, located in the centre of Sydney’s CBD. A musical item in Chinese was performed by Emily Liu from the Ryde Ward (congregation), accompanied on the piano by Emily Kwok, a member of the Greenwich Ward. A martial arts presentation was given by Leo Kwok, Bishop of the Ryde Chinese Ward.
Xu Jing, a member of Greenwich Ward, shared her experience of learning about Christianity for the first time as student decades earlier in the exact building the dinner was taking place. Now as a mother and women leader in the Church, she commented, “The Church has helped me integrate into the new environment and different culture found in Australia.”
The Lord commanded that His followers should meet together often to strengthen one another. This applies not only to Church congregations but also to families and communities.
Jesus taught; "Ye shall meet together oft." 3 Nephi 18:22.
