Day 11 #LightTheWorld: I Was a Stranger, and Ye Took Me In

Casper Yeow of Beaumont, South Australia is no longer a stranger to his neighbour. Until four weeks ago, he didn’t know Helen, an 83 year old widow living across the road. Casper had noticed Helen’s gardener struggling to tidy up the large, overgrown native garden and asked if she needed any more help. There were several dead trees and fallen limbs to be removed.

On Saturday, some men from the Firle Ward (congregation) of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints descended upon the property with chainsaws and gloves. Casper had invited them along with two other of his neighbours to remove the remaining dead wood.

It took two large trailer loads to reduce the fire fuel hazard on the property. Upon inspecting the work, Helen remarked, “This is exactly how my garden used to look. It’s wonderful!”

Jesus taught, “I was a stranger, and ye took me in.” Matthew 25:35

We shouldn't let our neighbours be strangers. We can reach out to them in love and build friendships as we serve one another and work together with each other.
