Clean Up Australia Day a Success

Children, youth and adults picked up various forms of litter along the river bank and highway from the Kidd Bridge to Hungry Jacks for the annual Clean Up Australia Day. The forty-six volunteers from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints opted to ‘do their part’ for the community on Saturday 4th March.

Hungry Jacks also did their part to make the day a success by providing free frozen drinks to the hot volunteers when they got to the end of their assigned section.

The clean-up crew found everything from hub caps to scooters, and a shopping trolley which came in handy to carry the rubbish.

“It was a lot of fun and great to get the youth involved,” said Colleen Gosden who runs the youth program for the church. “There is a lot of satisfaction in doing service for others. The drinks from Hungry Jacks were a great bonus!”

The volunteers also had a sausage sizzle, thanks to Clean Up Australia Day organisers.

“The Clean Up Australia Day organisers were excellent,” said Sandra Kelly, one of the group organisers. “We received equipment, paperwork and support for our assignment and the trucks picked up the rubbish shortly after we were done. They are doing a great job and were great to work with!”

“We will be putting up our hand to help out next year, the results are so worth it.”
